Comic Series…
At its core, the Two Lives of Oscar Grant Foundation seeks to shed light on the challenges faced by those attempting to re-enter society after being wronged by the criminal justice system.
Many remember the tragic story of Oscar Grant III, whose life was senselessly cut short by BART police, a story so powerfully told in the acclaimed film Fruitvale Station. But fewer know the story of his father, Oscar Grant Jr., who spent 35 years behind bars before his life sentence was overturned. His release, however, was not the end of his struggle. Like so many who have endured wrongful and unjustly prolonged imprisonment, Oscar faced overwhelming obstacles upon re-entry. Our goal is to ensure that men and women like Oscar Grant Jr. receive the support they need to rebuild their lives upon reentry to their respective communities.
But we understand that true advocacy goes beyond reforming California’s broken reentry programs—it’s about opening hearts and minds, especially those who may not yet realize how the criminal justice system is so often weaponized against people of color. That’s why we are producing a twelve volume comic and Netflix series, entitled, The Two Lives of Oscar Grant, to engage a wide audience in this important dialogue.
Our Work
Our focus is on bridging the gap between incarceration and successful re-entry into society. One of our key initiatives is to implement a pilot program aimed at ensuring that individuals transitioning out of prison have immediate access to re-entry programs that provide employment opportunities. By partnering with local governments and non-profit organizations, our goal is to reduce recidivism by creating a seamless transition from incarceration to employment, giving individuals the tools they need to thrive upon their return to the community.
Take Action
The Two Lives of Oscar Grant Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and all donations and merchandise purchases are tax-deductible. Every dollar raised goes directly toward supporting families impacted by incarceration, providing essential reentry services such as housing assistance, job placement, and access to healthy meals for individuals returning home to their children and communities. Your contribution helps break the cycle of incarceration and builds a future where every family has the resources to thrive. Make a difference today—support second chances and stronger communities.
